The PhD is very long and extensive, which may be why it remains such a struggle to find bits and pieces that cannot stay in the thesis. Fortuitously, Brandon Liew was putting up a special issue in Portside Review, which makes it a perfect opportunity to publish at least one bit, on playwright Leow Puay Tin and her 1996 script Family. The platform also allowed me to bring Puay Tin on board and feature her words directly.
I am grateful to my supervisor Paul Rae who had shared his recording of the TheatreWorks production with me; and Ray Langenbach and Mark Teh at Five Arts Centre for sharing recordings of the KL and German productions.

Access issue 11 of Portside Review here. Access my critical essay and with Nine Widows from Leow Puay Tin’s Family here.
